"So fun"

Katarina Netscher

"I can really recommend this course if you’re a beginner."

Gunilla Gadd

If you want to:

- use watercolors to express yourself
-  create your own art
-  have fun and enjoy the process

then this course is for YOU

Invite curiosity and relaxation to your art process

Watercolor has its own will. Trying to work against that is a recipe frustration and stress. The secret lies in getting to know how it operates and then work WITH it.

Let the fluidity and flow of the water guide the pigment to where it should be. That means surrendering to the powers of the watercolor medium. Let go of realism and the boxed thinking about how things “should be.”

I have tutored over 1000 students on how to let go of perfectionism and let the water’s flow show the way. Now it’s your turn.

That feeling when you JUST KNOW that your painting will be awesome. THAT is the feeling I want to give you in this course 💛

Online course Starting 29/4

  • Online
  • Video tutorials and written step by step-instructions
  • Classes released over 5 weeks
  • 1 Live Q&A session 19/5
  • Personal feedback included
  • No time limit, course is yours forever

5 week self study online course

This course is built on recorded video tutorials that you can watch at any time after they are released.

The course is divided into five modules that are released over five weeks. Each module will lead into a finish painting.

I will lead you through the planning process, how to choose colors and create an interesting composition for the painting.

But the most important part of each project is the different abstract techniques that I will teach you. Techniques that you can later combine in you own ways to create your own style.

Art Whisperer

I’m trilled about this course. I told my husband that Asa is my art whisperer—inviting me into the calm, showing me how to slow down and just breath into a creative space, but above all, empowering me to release my own artistic capability. I get the feeling she wants us all to win!

Materials you need

Watercolor Paper

You will need a sturdy surface when painting with a lot of water. Here are a few options:

1. Paper in pad
Buy paper in pads that are glued on all four sides. The advantage is that you don't have to stretch it yourself. The disadvantage is that it gets a little wavy when you paint when you paint but that goes away when the paper dries.

2. Heavy paper
Buy heavy paper (640gr/m2). The advantage is that it stays stable without you having to stretch it. The disadvantage is that it is expensive. I often use 425gr that is something in between but it is difficult to use for larger paintings because it becomes soft when wet and is difficult to wiggle back and forth.

3. Stretching
If you buy paper in loose sheets of 300gr/m2, you can stretch the paper in advance on a wooden board. This is my favourite method but it requires a little work. You can stretch the paper several days in advance.

You will need:
1. Gummed tape (brown, at least 4 cm wide ) and
2. plywood/wooden board/mdf (glass or plastic will not work)

If you don't know how to stretch paper with gummed tape, you can watch the instructional video HERE.

Suggested brands: Saunders Waterford, Arches, Bockingford (Some by Fabriano, Hahnemuhle - look for 100% cotton).

Watercolor paint in a tube
I use watercolor paints in a tube, mine are from Winsor & Newton professional. Choose either artist quality or studio quality from a brand that also makes artist quality paint. Good brands are, for example: Winsor & Newton, Daniel Smith or Schmincke. I recommend tube paints rather than pans because you can work with a wider range of consistencies.

Colors
If you already have colors, you can experiment with all of them. But if you haven't bought any yet, the following colors are fun to work with in fluid technique:
Alizarin Crimson - red
Quinacridone Violet - purple
Green Gold - yellow-green
Prussian Blue - blue
Paynes Grey - gray-black
Yellow Ochre - yellow

❣️One color is specific for this course. That is the Lunar Black from Daniel Smith. It is a heavily granulating paint that we will use for granulating waterfalls.

Other painting materials I use
Containers of water (I use two)
Towel or other absorbent surface
Household paper or similar
Spray bottle filled with water
Painting knife, palette knife or discarded bank card/plastic card
Wide brush (ca 4 cm wide)
Round brushes in different sizes. I like mine from Winsor & Newton professional sable pointed round nr 3 and 7.

Meet Åsa

At 26 I was diagnosed with depression and realized I had to make a change in my life. (I was later diagnosed with autism and adhd).

Looking back, I now realize that I was very young but at the time I felt like I was ready to retire. I was tired, didn’t want to go out and at the same time I was SO bored.

Then one day someone asked me:  “What did you enjoy doing as a kid?”  My answer was: Draw and paint - I loved it! And just like that I knew what I had to do.

I bought my first brush and paints and the rest is history.  Today, 10 years later, I have created +200 painting tutorials teaching others this wonderful hobby of watercolor painting.   I have tutored +1000 students on how to let go of perfectionism and let the flowing water show the way.  Now it's your turn 💛
